Railway Line Upgrade, Section Český Těšín - Dětmarovice

The railway line upgrade is the part of 3rd Transit Railway Corridor in the Czech Republic (Cheb – Plzeň – Praha – Česká Třebová – Ostrava – Petrovice u Karviné – Dětmarovice – Mosty u Jablunkova – border with Slovakia). The purpose of the upgrade was an increase of the speed on the railway line to a maximum of 120 km/h for goods trains, 160 km/h for passenger trains and in order that tilting trains could use the track. The upgrade consisted of changes of the horizontal and vertical alignment, the replacement and improvement of the track superstructure and substructure. The refurbished railway line mainly follows the position of the existing railway line. The total length of the section is 33.829 km.

The main construction works are as follows. Two level crossings were adapted. The reconstruction of the platforms and underpasses was carried out in Chotěbuz, Louky and Olší, Karviná and Dětmarovice. Furthermore, bridges and culverts were partly or totally reconstructed and new noise barriers were built. A safety and signalling equipment were installed along the track and in stations and overhead lines were upgraded.
