Upgrade of Székesfehérvár Railway Station, Hungary

The purpose of the upgrade was an increase of the speed to a maximum of 100 km/h on the main tracks and to a maximum 80, 60 or 40 km/h on the sidings. About 19 km of tracks were upgraded.

There were special requirements to comply with. Before commencement the works it was necessary to provide an archaeological research or to inspect a building site area by pyrotechnists because the station was bombed during WWII. Altogether, 230,000 m2 were inspected. The schedule of construction had to be adhered as the station is located on the important railway corridor between Budapest and Balaton Lake where the main tourist season starts in summer.

The main works included an upgrade of the track substructure (implementation of new layers and drainage), refurbishment of other permanent objects, construction of a new overhead line and noise barriers and a partial refurbishment of the main station building.
